I just picked the book up at my library. I have no life threatening diseases, but have suffered from depression throughout my lifetime (on and off medication); also CFS and other minor ailments. My son had first psychotic breakdown at 20 (now 35), so I could relate to the stigma attached to anyone needing treatment. I hope to learn more about the people in your book as it gives me hope that those with much worse conditions can survive, endure and find a place in this world.

What a wonderful, inspiring book. I have MS and I've told all my MS friends that this is a must read!
Richard Cohen is a wonderful writer who captures the stories and the personalities so well.

This book made me feel much better and not so alone. I have MS, which has progressed to the point where it seems to control my life more than ever. I will never give up, though. These people are an inspiration! Everyone needs to read this book, sick or well!

I am almost done reading this wonderful book. I, like Larry, suffer from both bipolar and alcoholism, in remission now for 2 years. My journey was similar, with many hospitilazations and a panoply of medication until Lithium finally worked. Its a journey to live with this disease but it is part of me, and I refuse to be part of the stimga.
I so appreciate that you included mental illness in this lovely book. Thank you.

I have lived a lof of your story as I, too, was trying to get diagnosed before the MRI, etc. My MS and diabetes, along with my faith and hope in God, have kept me going. However, lately, coping has become more of a choice and living is more of a challenge. I do not want to think about how selfish I would be if I were well. I would be doing for myself instead of looking at the needs of those around me. MS has made me a better person.
